3. Ketogenic Diet

This diet combines meals with low-carb and high-fat. The efficiency behind it is the idea to reduce consumption of carbohydrates. This will initiate a metabolic reaction in the body where fats, as the main fuel for energy, will be burnt. The metabolic state is called ketosis hence the name of the program; keto/ketogenic diet.

The diet dates back in the year 1920 where it was initially used to reduce seizure episodes for epileptic patients. With the introduction of anticonvulsant therapies, it was abandoned but later re-emerged thanks to high-profile celebrities who tried the diet and found its success in losing weight.

The diet consists of eliminating or reducing foods high in carbs such as pasta and bread,  and encouraging foods rich in healthy fats like avocados, nuts and fish. The success in the method has however shown a number of side effects such as sleeping problems, low energy levels and surprisingly bad breath. One is also likely to miss out on nutritious food groups such as fiber which may increase the risk of constipation and other problems in the future. It has shown to work effectively at a short period, but is questionable as a long term weight loss solution.  However, in addition to weight loss, there may be several other benefits of the keto diet.  Additionally, since the keto diet has become so popular there has been an explosion in the number of delicious and unique keto recipes.  Keto chaffle recipes are just one of many new trends that are simple and delicious.

​2. Military Diet

This is a three-day diet followed by a four-day break program. In the three days, the military days, followers eat strictly 1,100-1,400 calories each day. In the next four days of the week, followers take a break but are encouraged to keep eating healthy. Repetition of the weekly cycle is done until users can witness the progressive outcome achieving their goal weight.

It is believed to originate from prominent US army dietitians who wanted to help soldiers get fit quickly. It is believed to cut up to 4.5 kg of weight in a week. Khloe Kardashian was speculated to taking part in the program before her pregnancy.

​Dieters are encouraged to drink a lot of water to flush out toxins, help feel fuller and ultimately boost fat loss. Experts have claimed that the military diet majorly depends on your commitment to lose weight. If you don’t eat healthy during the four days break, little change will be observed.



1. Paleo Diet

The caveman diet encourages users to take in "hunted, gathered and fished foods". Taking things back in time, it recommends foods such as meat, nuts, herbs, eggs and fruits, vegetables and seafood. The diet imitates the way man used to eat during the Paleolithic era, thus the name paleo diet.

The diet became popular after being introduced by Dr. S. Boyd Eaton found a connection of good health with the eating habits of humans in the Paleolithic era before the existence of agriculture. It has received great endorsements from noteworthy celebrities like Miley Cyrus and Matthew McConaughey. It implores followers to avoid processed food such as bread, cereals, dairy, salt, refined sugar and grains to also cut out gluten. It largely recommends consumption of fruits, vegetables, organ meats, animal meats, nuts and seeds in plenty.

​ Also, adding traditional ingredients such as fragmented foods and bone broth is seen as a plus. Although the diet encourages the intake of foods that are low in carb, high in protein and rich with fiber, it leaves out crucial food groups like dairy. Users take in low amounts of calcium which will lead to health risks such as osteoporosis and other nutrient deficiency complications in the future.

Comparing the three diets, paleo sets itself apart as the most flexible diet giving room for dieters to enjoy food groups rich in healthy fats such as avocados. They can also access enough fiber from starchy fruits and vegetables. The Paleo diet also standsalone as a lifestyle habit rather than a diet plan. This means it can be incorporated into your life with ease as there are no strict rules and labor-intensive program to keep up with making it easy to follow in the long run.

With ketogenic and military diet, loss of weight is short lived. On the other hand, the paleo diet doesn’t guarantee weight loss regardless of its easy approach in dieting. Good things take time to shape up with a little bit of sacrifices here and there. We can conclude that picking a diet will entirely depend on the will of a person; the program is just a tool. It is preferable to choose a healthier diet plan you can commit on a daily basis to achieve desirable results.
