Are These FREE Workout Videos Set To Overtake Beachbody In The Home Fitness Industry? [Fitness Blender Review]
Last Updated March 5, 2019 By Brad Elgan
I was browsing YouTube recently and happened to type in the word “fitness” into the search function. Not only was the first autocomplete phrase “fitness blender”, but it was “fitness blender abs” and a few more that dominated the search.
After clicking on “Fitness Blender”, I was surprised to find a very popular YouTube channel called Fitness Blender. The channel is so popular they currently have over 4 million subscribers and hundreds of videos available.
The best part is that these fitness videos…are FREE
Are you looking for quick workouts, under 10 minutes?
Are you looking for a variety ab exercises?
How about workouts to tighten and tone your butt and thighs?
Maybe a mass building workout, kickboxing, balance, or my favorite “HIIT cardio and abs workout for people who get bored” ?
Whatever type of workout you’re looking for, they have it, and they don’t disappoint.
Quick Background
According to their introductory video on YouTube, Fitness Blender is produced by a husband and wife named Daniel and Kelli Segar.
They started filming basic exercise videos in 2010, posting them to YouTube and started a modest following in the hopes of generating extra income. Fast forward 7 years later and they have over 4 million subscribers and over 500 workouts available.
The videos have a minimalist perspective with just a simple white background and Daniel and Kelli talking and instructing the viewer without any sophisticated production value.
There is a great story on Fitness Blender from the Seattle Times. Check out the article for more information on Daniel and Kelli’s background and their fascinating story.
A Recipe For Success With 2 Simple Features
The thing that is so amazing for both Fitness Blender and the viewer is that their workouts are free. They’ve cracked the most simple way to gain a mass audience within the popular fitness industry by simply doing the opposite of what many industry giants like Beachbody have done for years.
They offer free quality workouts while their competitors like Beachbody, Body Rock, Be Fit, or Grokker charge monthly fees.
Additionally, the simplicity of the videos adds to their success. For example, with any of the above fitness companies you can find the same thing. The same hard-bodied, fake boobs, spray tanned, meat head instructors with the same upbeat motivational music, sleak studio, and top-notch production value.
With Fitness Blender, its simplicity.
Daniel and Kelli are obviously in shape, but they appear to be regular people, not fitness caricatures. The videos are simple and informative. White background without a sleak studio, nor heart-pumping music. Just them and the camera.
The combination of free, effective workouts and a simple production make Fitness Blender a very attractive alternative to subscription based home exercise videos.

Fun Website With Easy Navigation
After browsing and using their YouTube channel for several workouts, I checked out their website. Fitnessblender.com contains all their workouts with amazing navigation and fun workout titles too.
With titles like “Fitness Blender’s caveman workout”, “Toned and curvy body workout, exercises to get curves”, or “HIIT cardio and abs workout for people who get bored easily”, you can’t help but be motivated and curious about the workouts.
The YouTube channel contains a ton of free workouts, but it seriously lacks any user friendly navigation. I get the impression they just constantly posted videos when they got started and produced so many, that navigation was an afterthought.
Fortunately the website offers an amazing search function. With the click of a few boxes you can easily filter out workouts you don’t want and focus on workouts that will keep you motivated.

While they have an enormous library of workouts and easy navigation, one downside is that they have some options that you can pay for workouts. If you want a more thorough program you’ll have to pay a $10 fee per workout program.
Additionally, after thorough browsing, I noticed they have a lot of HIIT workouts. There seems to be a lack of strength training and stretching/yoga workouts. However, as an overall alternative to paid home fitness companies like Beachbody, Daily Burn, or BeFit, Fitness Blender is worth checking out.
